Mom Nifkins' Jellied Gin

 

At the first fires of fall, my mind goes to Mom Nifkin and her jars of jellied gin.

I would know nothing of the dear soul, save for Allan McFee, the CBC Radio legend.

"Her spun gold hair has gone to silver now," he would tell Eclectic Circus listeners. "Yet still Moms gamely hobbles to her gingerbread kitchen to put up her little pots of jellied gin."

Moms would send jellied gin to McFee.

"She occasionally sips two or three herself before slipping into the arms of Morpheus," he'd snicker. McFee's pocket mouse often indulged.

Yes kids. These were jelly shots decades before they appeared in bars.
