On March 17, celebrate St. Gertude of Nivelles, Patron of Cats, the Recently Diseased, Gardeners, Travelers, Those with Mental Illness and those with a Morbid Fear of Mice and Rats.
She was a Benedictine nun during the 7th century, a known opponent of rodents.
“St. Gertrude is invoked against mice and rats, which has led cat lovers to assume that Gertrude was a cat person, and so the ideal patron of their favorite pet,” according to official notation.
Wrongfully ignored by green beer drunks.
