Today, we celebrate Frank Costanza for inventing the inclusive holiday, Festivus.
Most associate the holiday with a
"Seinfeld" episode in 1997... but Festivus dates back to 1966, when
Daniel O’Keefe of Reader’s Digest started it in honor of his wife. His son, Dan O'Keefe, wrote the
"Seinfeld" episode.
Airing of grievances.
"At the Festivus dinner you gather your family around and tell them all the ways they have disappointed you over the past year" Costanza explains.
Feats of strength.
Physical competitions, meant to crown the strongest among the bunch.
The Festivus pole.
