The 535 members of the U.S. Congress have been memo'd that bullet-proof vests are now an authorized use of their office budgets.
Washington Post news item: Some D.C. ambulance workers have spent $300 to $500 for their own vests
to protect themselves when they arrive early at a crime scene and the
bullets are still flying.
"Bulletproof" vests under $500 are "soft armour" and probably won't stop anything tougher than a knife or pistol.
