OFF THE GRID: The Gnomes of Ontario

"My name is James Alofs and I am a big city human ... I left the big city to build an off-grid homestead on 40-acres of wilderness in Canada ... "

Join James in his ice-bound morning swimming hole. Rub a dub dub, hello hypothermia.

Alof's oft-repeated dream: to build a cabin so glorious that beautiful Sophie Turner (Game of Thrones) will join him in the boonies, make 10 magnificent babies and raise an Irish wolfhound.

Even as odd as YouTube dreams go, this is all a bit twee. Did I mention the dwarves?

For 10 episodes now, Alofs has chopped, scaled and stumbled forward in his quest, often with the help of elves. That's right, little Ontario forest gnomes. (There's one above just past the 19 minute mark).

Eccentric, charming or just plain goofy?

Trigger Warning: if you have a creepy ex-husband, or ever fell off a scaffold, maybe this is not for you.

Dwarfs or dwarves? "When referring to the meanings of the word “dwarf” not related to fantasy, the plural “dwarfs” should be used"
