Little did frontiersman Alferd Packer know--when he ate his buddies--that South Park's crazed creators would make him a happy hero in a musical.
But then Mormons didn't see Trey Parker and Matt Stone coming either.
Parker wrote and directed Cannibal in 1993, and co-stars with Stone. All their Colorado college chums are in the cast.
After an initial bloody chomping, the musical moves on to the farting horse, the trial of Packer and a big dance number as townsfolk sing "Hang the bastard high".
Much of the dialogue foreshadows Eric Cartman.
Cannibal has been a cult fave for decades--but a crisp, clean print is just up on YouTube, above. A perfect antidote to lockdown funk.
