The Toronto Star isn't known for its sense of humor.
But the Star owns this photo. I hope they use it if they note their rival's 50th year this November.
Dale Brazao took it.
It's Doug and Marilyn Creighton on a night any staffer can instantly identify. It was The End.
The Sun's founding publisher was tossed aside. After the suspect coup, the blood-letting, the shock, came this emotional staff party.
All exits should be so graceful.
Publishing the photo now would be wry salt on any Post Media celebration.
As free-lance psychiatrist, I document corporate amnesia. It's never accidental. Post Media purges archives, shaves bytes to save bucks online.
The Star may not want to resurface its own dirty hands, after collaborating with the Sun's current owner to kill so many regional newspapers.
But this is a sad-sweet photo of a memorable night in Canadian journalism. Just one click.
It shows where the Sun came from.
Why and how it prospered.
And some would say, went.
