LOST SONGS: Washing Dishes With My Sweetie - 1930

"Washing dishes with my sweetie,

at the kitchen sink

Oh gosh, I get so excited, I can hardly think ... "

From high above the blog, from the Imaginary Ballroom on the tenth floor of Toronto's legendary Walker House, come the tippy-toe rhythms of the Ted Weems Orchestra ...

And the unforgettable lyric, sung by the dashing Parker Gibbs.

Practice this now for Valentine's Day.

Who wants to get foxed up?

_

Who wants to visit Japan's famous Fox Village?

You go right in a caged woods with 100 foxes.  They run over your toes. Careful.

The foxes--as you will see--chew your sneakers and sing to you. They have a lot on their minds. They won't shut up.

They will demonstrate What The Fox Say.

You want this.

You don't know it yet, but you do.

Listen to the foxes. And the kyoto music.

Sign up for Fox Petting.

If you want to skip the high-speed train trip, start at the three minute mark.  (10 mins)

Any one of Erik Normark's weekly nature hikes is impressive, but he's edited bits of four years of videos into this new, short, spectacular sampler above.

As always, the woods, wind and water sounds of Sweden, the textures Erik captures are unique.

Best animated shorts

 _

Riz Ahmed stifled a snicker the other morning, announcing My Year of Dicks as one of five Oscar-nominated Best Animated Shorts.

But its an interesting take on a teen losing her virginity. You can see it here.    (25 mins

It's part graphic novel, part cartoon, and lapses into Japanese anime.

The shorts are always the most fun of the Oscars.

The Ice Merchants, another of the five nominees, has already been seen on this blog, here.

Canada's Nation Film Board was nominated for The Flying Sailor. It seems very old fashioned, in a wispy style familiar to NFB fans. It's here.

The fourth nominee--The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse--can be seen in Great Britain on the BBC iPlayer. If you take your internet via a VPN, you can watch it as well.

It's also streaming on Apple TV, trailer here.

And An Ostrich Told Me the World is Fake's trailer is here.

  • The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse. Charlie Mackesy and Matthew Freud.
  • The Flying Sailor. Amanda Forbis and Wendy Tilby.
  • Ice Merchants. João Gonzalez and Bruno Caetano.
  • My Year of Dicks. Sara Gunnarsdóttir and Pamela Ribon.
  • An Ostrich Told Me the World Is Fake and I Think I Believe It.
