This rainy morning is the perfect time to discover Bill Charlap.
The Grammy-winning jazz pianist has been bringing shy, lingering examinations of standards you know to New York City boites and clubs for decades.
His dream-like version of The Nearness of You below, is a ghost of longing and love songs past.
Charlap's newest album is Street of Dreams, the title cut below.
If you're on the YouTube site, clicking any Charlap cut will produce a stream of his many other tune takes, unique playing that rivals Bill Evans.
Let it rain.

Nice to hear Bill Charlap. I often heard him in Toronto at the Montreal Bistro, playing solo or duets with some of the great local bassists, also broadcast on CJRT. Later, with his own trio at the Senator.
He's married to a Canadian, another great pianist Renee Rosness.
And save an "ahh" for George's Spaghetti House, the Sapphire ... did I see Blossom Dearie there or Talk of the Town? The place with a stage in the center of the bar.
