"So it has nothing to do with her age, her gender?"
--A question asked at a quicky CTV News staff meeting yesterday in the wake of the Lisa LaFlamme firing fecklefest
Michael Melling, vice president of news for Bell Media, and Karine Moses, president of Bell Media’s Quebec news arm did some clumsy dancing, trying to concoct answers.
Canadaland has a telling transcript
CTV's announced a third party investigation, hoping to short circuit continued press and public attention over the popular anchor's dismissal.
The LaFlamme firing is headed into its second week and network execs are nervous.
That so much of the public believes LaFlamme letting her hair go gray during covid, and not allowed the additional two decades CTV and CBC male anchors get is hardly a surprise.
Melling, tagged as master of this PR mess, may walk the same plank he pushed LaFlamme off.
A petition protesting LaFlamme's firing is approaching 100,000 e-signatures at change.org
The petition is here.
About 90,000 viewers have signed it.
At 150,000 sign-ees, it becomes one of the top petitions on the public interest website.
I like comments left re the LaFlamme mess:
"CTV is trying to push a bad fart back into their butt."
Another:
"Bell is praying everyone cries themselves out."
