_Fred, Quebec's weather predicting groundhog, is dead.
Fred le Marmotte was found frozen to death
in Val-d'Espoir. He's believed to have died in his sleep, hibernating in December.
The groundhog was nine.
A kid in a rodent toque
was hurried to a stage to
tell a saddened crowd
there would be six more weeks
of winter.
Fred is survived by Wiarton Willie,
Punxsutawney Phil, and
dozens of municipal loudmouthes
in costume.
