The movie in your head

There is a crisp, handsome print of
Cinema Paradiso on amazon.prime
It's been restored to its original three hours.

I watched it over the weekend.

Like Dr. Zhivago, Lawrence of Arabia, On the Beach, there are images in it that light up your memory banks and linger.

In a year when every film absent a giant reptile or gorilla seemed invisible, Cinema Paradiso shines.
It's a movie about movies and its countless incidental clips span decades.

It has the late Ennio Morricone's best score.
It cleaned up in Cannes and Hollywood.
It was best foreign film 20 years ago.

It made me feel better.
And I wasn't feeling bad in the first place.
Movies can do that.
I'm not sure video games do.
