Bill Murray, wannabee murderer

The most famous morning TV show nobody ever saw was in the summer of 1980.

It came on at 9 a.m. weekdays.

David Letterman fronted 90 episodes of a very peculiar circus that followed NBC's Today show.

When Dave began in June it was 90 minutes.

NBC cut it to 60 minutes after six weeks.

Then NBC cancelled the show in October.

Above, Bill Murray threatens to murder Phil Donahue,  with live audience and music.

Dave cackles thru Bill's turn, as did the tiny TV audience that watched that weird, brief summer.

How great to see the seed show that so scared NBC.  Dave has put this short clip up on his "Letterman" YouTube channel.

Bill and Dave look just like the young, edgy smart-asses they became.

What adorable punks.
